The LPGA’s Original 13
Thirteen players founded the LPGA and created a durable professional tour. Their organizing work opened a path for generations of women to make a living in golf.
The founders were competitors as well as organizers. They created tournaments, found sponsors and built the structure needed for a women's professional tour to survive. Patty Berg, Louise Suggs and Babe Zaharias were among the 13.
Founding a tour required scheduling, negotiation and financial risk. The Original 13 did that work while competing against one another.
